That said, bootup is the worst case for a missing input cap. Did you check the power supply (or try another of the same voltage and => current specs)? Shouldn't matter with a good supply as it would have output filtering. I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice. Once again, I don't know if this has happen to anyone, but my motherboard has the proper holes opening on the PCB for the capacitor, just need to know which capacitor. Now I'm willing to tip $40.00 to anyone with a R8500 willing to go through the trouble of opening up their router and snap a picture of the capacitor in their router, and take down the exact number and rating of the capacitor, I figured I'll try to put one in, and hopefully it'll UN-BRICK the r8500 netgear router. It's extremely strange! I've never seen anything like this, but yeah, I've looked over the internet and in every picture of the motherboard of the r8500 exposed, there is a capacitor next to the power input port.
